Abstract

Amy Bird, BAMAN Chair, and Alexandra Mills, BAMAN Vice-Chair discuss the evolution of BAMAN

As we move into the next quarter of 2025, BAMAN continues to evolve, ensuring that our members receive the highest levels of support, professional development, and advocacy. With a fresh leadership team, a renewed strategic focus, and an exciting calendar of events, this year marks a new chapter for medical aesthetic nurses across the UK. We are committed to making BAMAN a dynamic, inclusive, and forward-thinking association, where members feel engaged, supported and valued. The past few months have been a time of transition, but also of progress, and we are excited about the opportunities ahead.

A new era of leadership and open communication

With a new Board of Directors now in place, one of our key focuses has been strengthening BAMAN's governance and internal structures. We want to ensure that BAMAN remains a member-led organisation, where every nurse has the opportunity to contribute, and where decisions are made transparently and with the profession's best interests at heart.

One of our core commitments is to open and accessible leadership. As Chair and Vice-Chair of BAMAN, we are always keen to hear from members about their experiences, concerns and ideas. We welcome conversations with individuals and groups within the BAMAN community, and want to ensure that every member knows they have a voice in the direction of the association. Over the coming months, we will be hosting open forums, digital Q&A sessions, and increased engagement with Regional Leaders so that our members have direct access to the Board.

Our next Board of Directors meeting on 8 May will refine our strategic goals and look at how we can continue to grow and develop BAMAN to better serve our members.

Stronger support for members across the UK

We know that medical aesthetic nurses often work independently, which can feel isolating. One of our priorities for 2025 is to strengthen the sense of community within BAMAN and ensure that every member—no matter where they are based—has access to support, networking and learning opportunities.

To achieve this, we are enhancing our regional structure, ensuring that Regional Leaders have the resources they need to effectively connect with members. The Regional Leaders Sub-Committee will be reformed by May, with a renewed focus on providing practical support, engagement, and local events that allow members to meet, share experiences, and collaborate. The next Regional Leaders meeting on 3 April, the day before the Spring Symposium, will play a key role in shaping this new approach.

Education and professional development at the heart of BAMAN

At BAMAN, we believe that ongoing education is essential for maintaining high standards and advancing the profession. This year, we are working to further enhance our CPD offering, ensuring that our members have access to the latest knowledge and best practices.

The Education & Training Sub-Committee, led by Anna Baker, will also be reformed by May, allowing us to take a fresh look at how we support the professional development of medical aesthetic nurses. The committee will be reviewing and publishing the BAMAN Competency Framework, ensuring it remains a gold standard for medical aesthetic nursing practice.

A key highlight of the next quarter is the Spring Symposium on 4 April at King's Fund, London. This event will bring together some of the most advanced practitioners in aesthetic medicine, offering an opportunity to learn about new and innovative treatments, emerging trends and best practices. It is an invaluable chance to connect with colleagues, gain new insights, and take part in discussions that shape the future of our profession.

Advocating for medical aesthetic nurses on key issues

BAMAN has always played an important role in advocating for medical aesthetic nurses within the wider regulatory and healthcare landscape, and this remains a priority for 2025.

One of the key areas we are addressing is the need for Independent Nurse Prescribers (INPs) to be allowed to hold Prescription-Only Medicines (POMs). Over 63% of our membership are prescribers, and for many, this would be a long overdue and welcome change. This change is crucial in aligning medical aesthetic nursing with other healthcare disciplines, improving efficiency in practice, and enhancing patient safety. Our newly formed Regulatory Sub-Committee will be leading on this work, ensuring that BAMAN remains at the forefront of professional advocacy.

In addition, we are engaging with stakeholders across the four nations of the UK, ensuring that medical aesthetic nurses have a strong voice in conversations about regulation, patient safety and best practice standards.

Looking ahead to our biggest gathering of the year

While we continue to work hard on governance, education and advocacy, we are also looking ahead to one of the most exciting moments in the BAMAN calendar—the BAMAN Autumn Aesthetic Conference, taking place at Eastside Rooms, Birmingham on 18-19 September.

This conference is the largest gathering of medical aesthetic nurses in the UK, bringing together practitioners from across the country to share knowledge, hear from leading experts, and connect with like-minded professionals. Tickets are already on sale on our events page, with options for one-day, two-day, and hotel packages available.

Last year's event was a fantastic success, a sold out event with nurses coming together to engage in cutting-edge clinical discussions, witnessing some brilliant live demonstrations, and networking with peers. We are looking forward to welcoming even more of you this year, and we encourage you to book early to secure your place.

A positive future for medical aesthetic nursing

The coming months are filled with opportunities to connect, learn and shape the future of medical aesthetic nursing together. Whether it is through regional events, CPD sessions, advocacy initiatives, or our major conferences, BAMAN is here to support every member in their professional journey.

We are excited about the future of BAMAN, and we look forward to seeing many of you at our upcoming events, in discussions online, or in person at our regional and national meetings. Thank you for your continued support, and together, we will continue to elevate medical aesthetic nursing and ensure that our profession thrives.
