Dan Parker Traditional phone lines will be switched off due to the fact that they no longer meet the demand for new technology

For those who are unaware, BT will be switching off traditional phone lines in 2025 (BT, 2021). This is not meant to alarm anyone, but I want you to understand clearly exactly what that means.

BT intends to permanently switch off the traditional networks. It stopped supplying public switched telephone network (PSTN) and integrated service digital network (ISDN) in 2020, and aims to move to a full migration by 2025. Every phone line within the UK will be digital.

Why?

The reason traditional lines will be switched off due to the fact that they no longer meet the demand for new technology. For example, it does not support data connections (the internet) and it is restricted to a slim amount of benefits, such as voicemail and 1471.

The changes are also being driven by the fact that the current infrastructure is running equipment that is reaching its end of life, and the parts and skills to repair them are becoming scarce.

What this means

Naturally, medical aesthetic clinics have phone lines that patients use to contact the practitioner, and these are crucial.

In short, aesthetic practitioners need to ensure that they have a solution ready—there is still time to prepare, so there is no need to panic.

However, if a new phone system is being sought out, the right choice needs to be made to avoid excessive spending.

Additionally, new technology is available that allows people to do more, including recording calls and using the internet to make calls, which reduces costs in the long term.

Evolving technology is making lives easier

Although the switch off may be viewed as a hassle now, once a solution and replacement for ISDN and PSTN has been found, communications with patients will be made even easier due to the aforementioned reasons.

While many businesses have already incorporated an all-digital model, many will still need to move their communications to the cloud, make calls over the internet and embrace increased video conferencing (BT, 2021).
