MPs have launched an inquiry into the health impact of negative body image

07 January 2022

MPs are looking to examine the relationship between people’s perception of their body image and their mental and physical health.

They will analyse how much body image perception can impede access to NHS services and whether NHS training and Government messaging should be changed.

The Committee will also investigate the extent to which people who have a negative body image are drawn to cosmetic procedures, and whether there is enough support, advice and regulation in place to ensure public safety. The inquiry expands on the work of a report from the Women and Equalities Committee, which found that 61% of adults and 66% of children have negative or very negative feelings about their body image.

The inquiry is currently accepting evidence until 22 January 2022.
