The International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) has released the results of its annual global survey into aesthetic procedures in 2020.
The results showed that surgical procedures decreased by nearly 11% in 2020, as a result of surgeons across the globe having to temporarily close their practices due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, while the increase in non-surgical procedures continued, this growth was lower than that seen in previous years (5.7% and 7.6% in 2020 and 2019, respectively). Overall, the results demonstrate a decrease of 1.8% for all aesthetic procedures.
‘This downward trend is in line with our survey findings of lower patient demand due to safety and financial concerns during the COVID-19 pandemic. At the same time, many of us have also experienced an increase in demand due to patients’ increased flexibility, the opportunity for a more private recovery and, particularly for facial procedures, the so-called ‘Zoom effect’. This has limited the impact of COVID-19 on overall procedures,’ said Dr Arturo Ramirez-Montañana, Chair of ISAPS’ Global Survey Committee.
